ISOMAT consolidates its presence in external thermal insulation by inaugurating its new EPS production unit
ISOMAT, as part of its business model focused on providing comprehensive construction solutions, has made a strategic move to vertically integrate its supply chain for external thermal insulation by launching a new EPS (expanded polystyrene) production unit, which was completed in June 2024 at its headquarters in Agios Athanasios, Thessaloniki, Greece.
ISOMAT’s new EPS production unit began pilot operations in the summer and has been fully operational since early September in a brand-new, cutting-edge facility covering 4,500 m². Here, semi-finished blocks are produced in two separate production lines for white and graphite-containing materials, using a single platform to prevent any mixing. To ensure consistent quality, the company collaborates closely with BASF, the world’s leading chemical company headquartered in Germany, for the supply of white foam granulate (raw material). After curing and quality control, the semi-finished products are transported to an automated cutting and packaging line, which features state-of-the-art robotic palletizing.
ISOMAT’s new EPS production unit is the first in Greece and currently the only one of its kind operating with zero direct carbon dioxide emissions. The steam required for producing thermal insulation materials is generated exclusively from electricity, with a significant portion coming from renewable energy sources, rather than fossil fuels. In addition, the unit features a zero waste EPS recycling system. The production process, based on advanced technologies and automation without direct human intervention, operates with maximum capacity of 1,500 m³ per day (calculated for two shifts), with the potential for expansion based on market demands. ISOMAT, committed to high quality, strictly adheres to European standards through continuous inspections by trained personnel and a modern quality control laboratory.
This investment is part of ISOMAT’s overall investment strategy for building upgrades and product range expansion, aimed at continually enhancing its competitiveness and leadership in the building materials sector. ISOMAT’s President & Managing Director, Thanos Tziritis, states, “In response to market and partner needs, we are further strengthening our dynamic presence in external thermal insulation and the energy upgrading of buildings with a state-of-the-art expanded polystyrene production unit. Our goal is to better serve the professionals who trust us and fully meet today’s demands.”
