Preparation of durable cement screed flooring
RELATED MATERIALS
ADIPLAST Polymer latex for multiple improvements of mortars
I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM – REQUIREMENTS
Floors in warehouses, garages, etc. are subject to excessive mechanical wear, especially friction.
Therefore, floorings in these places require both strong bonding to the underlying surface, so that they do not become unstuck and significant abrasive resistance (friction), in order not to produce dust.
II. SOLUTION
The formation of a floor surface with significant durability and abrasive resistance can be achieved by forming of cement mortar with the addition of ADIPLAST polymer latex.
The cement screed compound resulting from the addition of ADIPLAST displays increased bonding, elasticity, resistance to friction, etc., providing a surface that does not produce dust.
Efficiency of bonding of this mortar on the substrate is ensured by applying a bonding layer to which ADIPLAST is added (cement + sand + ADIPLAST).
III. APPLICATION
Substrate preparation
-
The surface must be thoroughly cleaned of loose particles, grease, oil and any rendering residues.
-
It should then be thoroughly dampened, without leaving any puddles of water.
Application
-
The adhesion of the cement screed to the substrate is reinforced by applying a bonding layer, as follows:
A 2 mm thick mortar mixture made of cement : sand : ADIPLAST : water = 1 : 1 : 0,5 : 0,5 (parts by volume) is brushed on the cleaned floor.
This should be carried out first before the cement mortar is applied to the floor, so that the bonding layer is still fresh. If the area is extensive, the bonding layer is applied in sections, as well as the screed is applied, in order to avoid drying out of the bonding layer as a result of delaying the application of the cement mortar. If necessary, the dried out sections and any seams created are recoated.
ADIPLAST consumption: approx. 0,25 kg/m2/mm. -
Preparation of a cement screed with addition of ADIPLAST in proportions (by volume):
Dry mortar: cement to sand = 1:2 to 1:4
Mixing liquid: ADIPLAST to water = 1:2 to 1:4
Mixing liquid to dry mortar = 1:4 to 1:4,5
The thicker the cement screed to be applied, the less the proportions of cement and ADIPLAST in the mixture.
ADIPLAST should be added to the mixing water in the cement mixer.
The prepared mixture should be spread on the floor, while the bonding layer is still fresh, using guides, at a thickness of 1-3cm, and subsequently it is leveled and smoothed.
ADIPLAST consumption: 0,5-1,0 kg/m2/cm.
